Printer Controller and
Driver Development

Torrey Pines Research (TPR) has designed, coded and debugged numerous printer interface programs across a variety of platforms, operating systems and applications. These include Microsoft Windows Drivers for the W95/W98/W2K/XP OS family using Microsoft's SDK's for mini-drivers, uni-drivers as well as direct custom drivers using Microsoft Foundation Class and C++. TPR maintains developer status with third party driver SDKs to produce custom drivers where the simple Microsoft drivers do not provide sufficient functionality and full custom development is prohibitively expensive.

TPR has provided drivers for all types of print environments including impact (dot matrix), inkjet, thermal and electrographic (Laser) imaging. TPR has produced drivers for monochrome, spot color and full color printing including development of color management processes. Additional development work in drivers for high reliability printing environments, such as IBM IPDS and HP-PJL, provides a knowledge base in closed loop printing where print verification, job recovery, and page duplication prevention are critical. TPR has created drivers for mobile platforms such as Windows CE using its platform builder and custom drivers for serial communications to printers used with PalmOS devices.

TPR's extensive development experience in print engines, printer controllers, Raster Image Processors and PDL emulation programs insures that TPR understands the functionality, speed and user feature access requirements that must be managed by the driver program, whether it be an OS specific implementation or a custom direct printing application. TPR understands the complete printing environment and can tailor its driver development activities, development environment and test activities to your system's unique requirements.

TPR Ozone Testing Facilities Description (PDF)

TPR has conducted an extensive test on the stability of photographic prints made from a variety of systems from multiple vendors. The report compares the performance of the various images under accelerated conditions to assess their respective permanence and to make life projections. this is available for download at Publications.

TPR's Chief Technologist,
Peter J. Mason,  presented a white paper last month at the Society for Imaging Science and Technology's international conference on Digital Printing Technologies. The paper and the presentation are available for download at publications.

Torrey Pines Research (TPR) has reached terms with one of its largest customers for another extension to their current R&D, Development and Intellectual Property agreement.
